Playwright Keith Reddin and director Terry Kinney have come on board for the stage adaptation of Rear Window. “Since initiating this project, we’ve been totally committed to bringing something fresh to the story,” producer Charlie Lyons said in a statement today. “To accomplish that, we’ve gone back to Cornell Woolrich’s short story and brought onboard progressive, smart theater artists in Keith and Terry. We couldn’t be more thrilled with what this team has brought to this project.” A co-founder of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Kinney’s many credits include directing the Tony-winning 2001 revival of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Reddin’s 2008 play Too Much Memory won the outstanding play award at that year’s New York Feinge Festival.Woolrich’s 1942 story was famously adapted for the big screen and directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1954. The film version starred Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart as the wheelchair-bound photographer who spies on his neighbors. Back in October Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. revealed that Lyons and director Jay Russell had partnered with Homeland actor Tim Guinee as producers to bring the famed noir short story to the Broadway stage. The two had worked together on The Water Horse and Ladder 49. It was also announced today that producer Lias J. Steen had joined Lyons, Russell and Guinee on the project.
