Actor Herbert to talk about his career

Bermudian film and stage actor Daren Herbert will be sharing his knowledge on the challenges of showbiz and the lessons he has learned along the way, at a special event next week at Chewstick.Mr Herbert has been living and working as an actor in North America for many years — having landed roles in films like “Dreamgirls”, “Hot Tub Time Machine” and “This Means War”. He is now looking forward to telling people about the realities of being an international actor, at the upcoming Reasnin session Tuesday at 6pm.The series was designed as a way to give residents unique insight into the lives and careers of local icons.When it first launched the series was focused on art, but it has expanded to include a number of different professionals from all sectors of the community. Its aim is to highlight an array of activists, artists and other icons, through an interview style public discussion fielded by Chewstick co-founder Najib ‘Tanzoui’ Chentouf.Deidra Lee-Bean, the spokeswoman for Chewstick, said: “The series began on in 2011 with an interview of artist Sharon Wilson and continued with interviews of Allan Warner (of Warner’s Gombeys), sculptor Michael Walsh and painter Monica Jones.“After some months the series will return in a special edition with Mr Herbert, who has worked on stages and sets in Canada, the US, Korea and Japan.“His film and television credits include Dreamgirls, Stargate Universe, Human Target, This Means War and more. He is currently acting as the lead in the current stage production of Dreamgirls in Vancouver and can also be seen in on the CW series ‘Cult’.”She said Mr Herbert was eager to share his advice as a way to help aspiring actors break into the field and better understand the daily work that’s needed in order to find success.“The questions presented, will probe into aspects of Daren’s life and work and give attendees an opportunity to explore the artist as a person, talent and professional,” Ms Bean said.“Following the interview, the audience will be invited to ask questions of Mr Herbert to gain further insight into his journey, his outlook on the world and where he sees his contribution in the future.”The event is free, however any donations will go toward the Chewstick Foundation’s programmes and infrastructure.It will take place at Chewstick Headquarters on the corner of Court Street and Elliot Street at 6pm, with questions and general discussion following immediately after.To give suggestions on other icons who can be featured in this series, phone 292-2439, e-mail info@chewstick.org or visit www.chewstick.org.
