10 Awesome TV Characters Who Never Deserved Their Terrible Deaths

9. Stargate Atlantis - Carson Beckett

Carson Beckett Carson Beckett was a very admirable character. Considered the "heart" of the Atlantis team, it was rare to find anybody who disliked him. Oh sure, Rodney treated him like crap occasionally, but that's because Rodney's could be a dick sometimes. As a doctor, Beckett was also quite skilled, whether it be finding out that Teyla had Wraith DNA to developing a drug that had a high chance of giving the recipient the Ancient gene. And, of course, he always did his best to heal his fellow man. In the episode "Sunday," he tries to find people to go fishing with him, but everyone is to busy with their own plans. He is then called into action to help treat several team members who have come across a case of the exploding tumor. That's right, a tumor grows inside of you until it explodes. After several deaths from this, Carson manages to successfully remove it off someone. Sticking it in a box, he goes to meet the containment team, but the tumor explodes, killing everyone in the immediate area. I like that Carson was able to die a hero, I really do. The problem is that the character would later show up as a clone, which partly nullifies the original version's death. I'm more accepting of stuff like this in comic books, but this was unnecessary to the show. If the events of "Sunday" had ended with Carson being injured or escaping harm, I think that would have been a better alternative to the series. I guess the writers realized what a waste it was killing him off and that's why they brought him back as a clone, but it's just not the same.
