Kurt Russell Gets Back Behind the Wheel for Role in 'Fast & Furious 7'

Kurt Russell

After bringing in Ong-Bak star Tony Jaa for a role in the forthcoming sequel Fast & Furious 7, Universal has picked up a bigger name to join the high speed franchise. Variety has word that Death Proof and Stargate actor Kurt Russell has joined the film but his role has not been disclosed at this time. However, one detail that has been divulged about the part was that it was originally offered to Denzel Washington, so it must be fairly integral to the story. Of course, it could just be a glorified cameo like Arnold Schwarzenegger's appearance in The Expendables, but we bet Russell will have something pretty cool to do.

We're still not sure about the plot for the sequel, but Universal is getting this one together very quickly to shoot in Los Angeles in order to meet the July 11th, 2014 release date. In fact, the film is coming together so quickly, that director Justin Lin decided he couldn't pull off the sequel so quickly, and now Insidious and The Conjuring director James Wan has taken over. The last outing with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and their entire crew resulted in big box office bucks and some wholly mindless, entertaining action, so hopefully Wan's first foray into the genre can live up to fans' wild expectations. Excited?

2,3 and 4 already ruined it. 5,6 brought it back from the dead.

The franchise was never dead.

He should play Vin Diesel's dad. I know he's dead, but you know, this franchise resembles more and more a comic book storyline, so who knows?

I won't censor my original reaction: "Fuck yes!" I watched Tombstone the other day, and re-realized just how awesome Kurt Russell can be...so I hope he gets to do some good stuff in this one. This cast is fantastic. Universal is treating this franchise like Gatsby treated his life: "It's got to be like this, it's got to keep going up."

It could easily be a cameo type. Remember Deadline said the role was meant to be small in 7, but was to lead into a bigger part for Fast 8?

I'm glad to hear this is now confirmed, Kurt Russell has never given a bad performance. Honestly I wish this guy was in more movies. He is one of the most under rated actors in Hollywood and has been for years. Great addition to an already awesome franchise!
